HTC unveils Explorer smartphone

HTC recently announced the launch of its latest smartphone — Explorer, in Indian as well as international markets.

Till now HTC Wildfire was

considered the most budget friendly offering from HTC's stable but not anymore as the HTC Explorer is now here to capture the spot with a price tag of Rs.12,500 to 11,500 as per market study.

The device is based on a very dynamic uni-body design that seems to be inspiring HTC a lot. We have seen quite a few smartphones coming from HTC in the recent past based on the same design, including the HTC Sensation and the EVO 3D.

  • Intuitive, easy to use lockscreen and homescreen

With HTC Explorer we’ve put what’s most important to you right at your fingertips. The lockscreen lets you access your contacts, mail, camera, and messages in one swipe even when your phone is locked. And to make things convenient for you, HTC Explorer offers an intuitive, clean homescreen design that focuses on the most frequently used features and notifies you when you’ve received an email or text message or have a calendar event.

  • Web browsing similar to your desktop computer

With HTC Explorer, you’ll enjoy web browsing that’s similar to your desktop computer. Websites are easy to find and easy to read. To make your viewing even easier, the HTC Explorer automatically adjusts the text on your screen so you won’t have to pan left and right to get all the news. Zoom in and dial a phone number on the web page in one easy step. And when you click on an address, a map opens up instantly for you to check out its location.

Amazon announced Kindle e-readers

amazon-kindle-fire-touch

Amazon today announced a handful of new Kindle e-reader products, including the first ever Kindle with a color display – the Kindle Fire.

Firstly, Amazon has lowered the barrier of entry once again with a new entry level Kindle. For $79, the Wi-Fi-powered Kindle Button features a none-touch 6″ e-ink display. It will be the first Kindle without a built-in QWERTY keyboard. The new Kindle Button will be available from today.

Next up is the $99 Kindle Touch. Like the Kindle Button, the Kindle Touch will not have a QWERTY keyboard.  Instead text entry will rely on the infrared touchscreen similar to the technology used by Sony on their PRS e-readers.  Wi-Fi is included as standard. A 3G version is priced at $149. Both versions will be available from November.

Amazon has also introduced Kindle software for use on various devices and platforms, including Microsoft Windows, iOS, BlackBerry, Mac OS X (10.5 or later, Intel processor only), Android and Windows Phone 7.

Content for the Kindle can be purchased online and downloaded wirelessly in some countries, using either standard Wi-Fi or Amazon's 3G "Whispernet" network. Whispernet is accessible without any monthly fee or wireless subscription, although fees can be incurred for the delivery of periodicals and other content when roaming internationally beyond the customer's home country. Through a service called "Whispersync", customers can synchronize reading progress, bookmarks and other information across Kindle hardware devices and other mobile devices.
